MidWeek Mojo -- photo-filled two-pager

Happy Wednesday, everyone!!

Yes. I am a geek. A nerd. And you know what? I'm not afraid to admit it!

In the summer of 2009, Husband and I traveled to Indianapolis for GenCon, a *huge* gaming convention. We had a fabulous time together, and I especially loved getting to hang out with Husband doing some of the things he loves best. A big part of GenCon is the exhibit hall, where vendors selling all sorts of games set up their booths and stalls. You can play-test all sorts of board games, buy every type of game accessory imaginable, and let me tell you, the people-watching is unsurpassed. I kept the lines in this layout very clean and simple because there is so much going on in the photos, and I really wanted them to stand out.

When I saw the game piece themed embellishments in the Lucky Girls April kit, "A Boy & His Toys", I instantly knew they would be perfect for this layout.

Around the time when I was working on this layout, I had been feeling like I was in a bit of a creative slump. I had recently been showing my mother my scrapbooking layouts (aren't moms great for things like that? it's so nice of her to ooh and ahh over my projects!) and while I was flipping through them, I started to take note of the attributes that make any given page one of my favorites. This page incorporates those main ideas-- my personal favorite layouts have

• strong horizontal lines
• lots of white space
• clusters of embellishments

So when I started to work on this and other layouts, I stuck to those basic principles, and I created projects that I absolutely love! Next time you feel like you're hitting a creative block, try looking through your favorite projects and take note of the attributes that appeal to you the most-- and incorporate them into your next project!
